Hayek Road To Serfdom
F.A. Von Hayek - The Road To Serfdom
This is a classic, published in 1944. It is a warning against the inevitable result of the movement towards economic planning and "parental" government. One chapter alone - "Why The Worst Get On Top" - makes the book worth buying

Franck/Debussy/Ravel
Franck Piano Sonata (also Debussy/Ravel)
The music on this disc is marvellous, but it is the playing that really makes it special. Violinist Kwung Wa Chung and pianist Rudu Lupu are both excellent musicians as solo players, but their collaboration here is absolutely perfect. Superb chamber music.

Oregon - Winter Light
Oregon - Winter Light
This is "ECM-type" jazz, but it's not from ECM. Oregon, led by guitarist Ralph Towner and oboeist Paul McCandless, came in around 1970 and played what some disparagingly labelled "chamber music jazz". Bebop this is not, but if you like endless invention and often breathtaking musicianship, check it out.

Eva Cassidy Songbird
Eva Cassidy - Songbird
At the last count, there were 72 individual listeners' reviews of this disc up at Amazon. They are as unanimous as they are heartwarming. The praise is unstinting, fervent, and obviously genuine.
Eva Cassidy could and did sing anything. Her voice was beyond either description or comparison, you simply have to hear it. We say "was" because she died tragically of cancer at 33. Since I got this, it has jumped right to the top of my "play list". A GREAT record.

Amadeus
Amadeus
But Mozart wasn't really like this! Wasn't he? He most certainly was a prodigous musical genius, and the toast of Europe from his earliest years. He most certainly did give impromptu piano concerts in "dives". He most certainly did have an impish sense of humour, as any of his operas will attest. It's a good movie, with excellent acting, and who can fault the music?
