Pinnock is at his best in music like this. Clean sprightly and not harsh considering his penchant for "original instruments". This is the "bargain" 3 CD set. The Brandenburgs are also available separately, with superior recording and, it must be said, playing.

Monk was an absolute original. Although his tunes have been "covered" by almost everyone, no one plays them like he did. In 1957, Monk spent six months working with a quartet including Coltrane in New York. Some of the solos, by both men, will knock your socks off.

Mark Knopfler is, of course, the guitarist and leader of Dire Straits. This is a showcase for his writing and playing talents, made with session musicians from both sides of the Atlantic. You will find everything from (gentle) rock to bluegrass to country to celtic music here, all of it excellently played and sumptuously recorded. A disc that definitely grows on you.
