De Voto - The Journals of Lewis and Clark
Bernard de Voto (ed) - The Journals of Lewis and Clark
A great journal of discovery described in their own words by the leaders of the expedition. If you live or have travelled through this country (or even if you have never been near it), give yourself a treat, see it through the eyes of Lewis and Clark.

Bach Brandenburg Concertos
Bach Brandenburg Concertos/Orchestral Suites
Pinnock is at his best in music like this. Clean sprightly and not harsh considering his penchant for "original instruments". This is the "bargain" 3 CD set. The Brandenburgs are also available separately, with superior recording and, it must be said, playing.

Thelonious Monk with John Coltrane
Thelonious Monk with John Coltrane
Monk was an absolute original. Although his tunes have been "covered" by almost everyone, no one plays them like he did. In 1957, Monk spent six months working with a quartet including Coltrane in New York. Some of the solos, by both men, will knock your socks off.

Mark Knopfler Golden Heart
Mark Knopfler - Golden Heart
Mark Knopfler is, of course, the guitarist and leader of Dire Straits. This is a showcase for his writing and playing talents, made with session musicians from both sides of the Atlantic. You will find everything from (gentle) rock to bluegrass to country to celtic music here, all of it excellently played and sumptuously recorded. A disc that definitely grows on you.

Ayn Rand - A Sense Of Life
Ayn Rand - A Sense Of Life
The life of Ayn Rand, some of it dramatised, some of it taken from actual footage. Includes talk show appearances, interviews, and speeches. It includes clips of the movies made of her books and interviews with many of her admirers. Available on both video and DVD
