J.F.C. Fuller - The Conduct Of War: 1789-1961
Fuller was more than just a student of war, he was an historian of great knowedge and interpretive power. He considered this the most important of his many works. Particularly valuable for his insight on the ROOT causes of the global tragedy that was World War I - the turning point of the 20th century.
Klemperer - Brahms First Symphony
Beethoven's Tenth? No, although the influence is undeniable. One could just as easily say that Beethoven's first was Mozart's 42nd (or Haydn's 105th). This is a great work, and this performance and recording is second to none.
Grant Green - Idle Moments
This is one of Rudy Gelder's remastered Blue Notes. Actually, a collaboration between Guitarist Green, vibes player Bobby Hutcherson, and Joe Henderson on Tenor. The interplay between vibes and guitar is a highlight, but the whole thing is excellent, and the remastering is absolutely superb.
The Allman Brothers - Live At The Filmore East
Along with Little Feat's
Waiting For Columbus, this is one of the very best live rock recordings ever made. You couldn't see a rock concert to touch this one today for any amount of money.
Daniel Day Lewis (et al) - The Last Of The Mohicans
Seen Mel Gibson's latest (The Patriot)? What a waste! Set in the midst of the American Revolution, and barely a word about what they were fighting for. This is much better. Authentic, well written, well acted, fine soundtrack. You can see the revolution coming in this movie.
