All Ordinaries Fifty Leaders All Industrials All Resources Gold Index

Between Monday, April 8 and Friday, June 28, 2002, the ASX published daily closing data on the Fifty Leaders, Industrials, Resources, and Gold (XGO) indexes. There was no open/high/low data issued. On Monday, July 1, 2002, the ASX ceased issuing data on ANY of these indexes. Australia is now without an "official" Fifty Leaders, Industrials, Resource or Gold stock index.

This being the case, we have decided to compile our own "unofficial" Australian Gold Stock Index, making use of the stocks that were in the official Australian Stock Exchange (ASX) Gold index (XGO) before it was discontinued.

This Australian Gold stock index is available daily to all Privateer and Gold This Week subscribers.

These are bar charts with indicators attached.
Only one indicator is shown to maximise the readability of the chart.

The Fifty Leaders - least volatile
The All Ordinaries
The All Industrials
The All Resources
The Gold Index - most volatile - by far!

The All Ordinaries Index

The All Ordinaries Index is the Australian equivalent of the Dow, the Nikkei Dow, or the FT-100. It is made up of the major stocks on the Australian Stock Exchange - both industrial and resource stocks.

While the Ords goes back many decades, the modern index was instituted on December 31, 1979 at a base of 500 points. Its history since then is as follows.
